TBH Opens New Medical Building - Eagle Crest Health Park

  • Michael K. Winthrop, President & CEO of The Bellevue Hospital (TBH), and Jimmie Fitzgerald, TBH Board of Trustees Chair officially open TBH's new medical building - Eagle Crest Health Park.

On Wednesday, Dec. 12, The Bellevue Hospital hosted an official ribbon cutting ceremony and open house to introduce its newest medical building, Eagle Crest Health Park, to the community. The building, located across from the hospital at 102 Commerce Park Drive in Bellevue, officially opened for business on Monday, Dec. 10.

The $7-million project, which broke ground in November 2017, includes a 27,000 square-foot facility housingThe Bellevue Hospital's Rehabilitation Services and Aquatic Therapy Pool; Anytime Fitness (a 24/7 access fitness center); Great Lakes Physicians Obstetrics/Gynecology Offices; Wound Reconstruction Center and Lower Extremity Reconstruction Institute of Northern Ohio (Podiatry).

“We are excited to offer this new Health Park to our community,” said Michael K. Winthrop, president and CEO of The Bellevue Hospital.  “This space focuses on providing key outpatient services and also introduces a 24/7 fitness center to the Bellevue area.”

Eagle Crest, constructed in the building that formerly housed Prestige Portraits, was designed to improve access to a variety of outpatient services and physician practices. This location also provides ample parking and handicap-accessible parking, Winthrop added.

The project’s general contractor and architect was Janotta & Herner of Monroeville.

Rehabilitation Services and Aquatic Therapy

The hospital’s rehabilitation services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and industrial services.  In addition, the department provides specialty services including pediatric therapy, vestibular rehabilitation, trigger point dry needling, sports medicine rehabilitation and aquatic therapy.

“Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for those who experience illness, injury or disability through comprehensive rehabilitation services with a team approach,” said Julie Jones, director of rehabilitation services at The Bellevue Hospital.

The new space in Eagle Crest Health Park is double the size of the department’s space in the hospital, according to Jones. It offers:

  • Additional private treatment/exam rooms
  • An expanded adult gym area for physical therapy
  • A space specifically for pediatric therapy that provides a fun atmosphere for children to receive physical, occupational and speech therapy
  • An occupational therapy ADL kitchen and bathroom set up to assist patients in safely completing activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and preparing meals.

Another highlight of the new space is a state-of the-art aquatic therapy pool offering an alternative low impact water workout for those needing physical therapy.

“Pain is often reduced or eliminated in aquatic therapy because water supports the body and reduces weight bearing on the joints,” Jones said.

The 15-foot x 18-foot warm water therapy pool has an underwater treadmill to normalize gait, water jets for deep tissue massage and resistance training, and variable depths for treading water. Therapists work one-on-one with patients to help increase their strength, improve balance and reduce pain.

Independent aquatic exercise sessions, beginner water fitness and intermediate water fitness also will be offered. For more information on these classes, call 419.483.4040, Ext. 4279 for more information and to sign-up.

The building was also designed with Anytime Fitness conveniently located right next door in Suite B. This access will assist in transitioning patients to independent exercise upon discharge from therapy.
